    Listening to Russian

    How it sounds
Unstressed vowels are reduced in speech, so spoken words can sound different from their spelling.
    Mixed speech
Russian speech in Central Asia mixes with local languages — the transcript keeps it as it was said before it is translated.
    Sentence order
Russian word order is flexible — usually subject, verb, object, but words move for emphasis because word endings carry the meaning, so sentences are rebuilt rather than swapped word for word.
    Where it is spoken
Russian is spoken in Russia, Central Asia and by communities worldwide.

    What changes in English

    Politeness
Russian has ty (familiar) and vy (formal or plural); in English it becomes "you", with the respect carried by the wording.
    Numbers
Numbers said in Russian come out as figures (0–9) in the English.

    Example

    What was said (Russian):

Рейс задерживается на два часа. Посадка теперь будет производиться у выхода 12 в 21:00.

    You read (English):

The flight is delayed by two hours. Boarding will now take place at gate 12 at 21:00.

    Questions

Is translating Russian audio to English free?

Yes — clips up to 3 minutes and 25 MB, 3 times a day, no sign-up.

Will it follow a Russian speaker with a strong accent?

Clear audio with one speaker at a time works best. Strong regional accents and background noise can cause mistakes, so check names and numbers against the recording.

Do I get the Russian transcript too?

Yes — what was said in Russian first, then the English.
