    How it works

    2. We write down what was said, then translate it into English — usually in under a minute
    3. Copy or download both as a TXT file

    Listening to Chinese

    How it sounds
Mandarin is tonal — the pitch of a syllable changes its meaning — and Cantonese is a different spoken language.
    Mixed speech
Mandarin speech in business borrows English words; Cantonese in Hong Kong mixes English heavily — the transcript keeps it as it was said before it is translated.
    Sentence order
Chinese and English both put the verb after the subject, so most sentences keep their shape; idioms still need rewording.
    Where it is spoken
Chinese is spoken in China, Taiwan, Singapore and by communities worldwide.

    What changes in English

    Politeness
Chinese has nǐ (familiar) and nín (respectful); in English it becomes "you", with the respect carried by the wording.
    Numbers
Numbers said in Chinese come out as figures (0–9) in the English.

    Example

    What was said (Chinese):

    嗨,我是Maria。我会迟到十分钟,请不用等我,先开始开会吧。

    You read (English):

Hi, I am Maria. I will be ten minutes late, please don't wait for me and start the meeting without me.

    Questions

Is translating Chinese audio to English free?

Yes — clips up to 3 minutes and 25 MB, 3 times a day, no sign-up.

Will it follow a Chinese speaker with a strong accent?

Clear audio with one speaker at a time works best. Strong regional accents and background noise can cause mistakes, so check names and numbers against the recording.

Do I get the Chinese transcript too?

Yes — what was said in Chinese first, then the English.
