From Japanese to English
- Politeness
- Japanese has Japanese usually avoids "you"; politeness is built into verb forms (keigo); English has a single "you", so the translation carries politeness with words like "please", "sir" or "ma'am".
- Sentence order
- Japanese puts the verb at the end and English puts the verb after the subject, so sentences are rebuilt, not swapped word for word.
- Where it comes from
- Japanese is spoken in Japan.
