How YouTube transcription works
hearlog extracts the caption track from a YouTube video, cleans it into a readable transcript, then feeds it into the same AI pipeline as a recording — so you get a summary in five styles and a one-click translation, and you can save it as a note.
This is captions-only in v1: it works for videos that have manual or auto-generated captions, which covers most lectures, news, interviews and educational content — including a large share of Hindi, Telugu and Tamil channels. If a video has no captions, download its audio and use the Upload tab instead, where the full audio transcription pipeline handles any Indian language.
Because the transcript flows into hearlog's standard flow, you can translate a Hindi lecture to English, pull Key Points from a two-hour talk, or archive a channel's content as searchable notes — all powered by Google Gemini AI.

Can I extract transcripts from Hindi YouTube videos?
Yes. hearlog extracts transcripts from YouTube videos that have auto-generated captions — including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali and other Indian language videos. After extraction you get an AI summary and can translate the transcript to any of 50+ languages in one click. Pro feature.
Does it work for YouTube Shorts?
Yes. hearlog supports YouTube Shorts URLs alongside standard videos. Paste the Shorts URL and get the transcript if captions are available. Most Shorts do not have auto-captions, so results depend on the creator having enabled them or YouTube generating them automatically.
What if the YouTube video has no captions?
If a video has no auto-generated or manual captions, hearlog cannot extract a transcript directly. In this case, download the video audio and upload the audio file to hearlog instead — the full transcription flow handles uploaded audio in any Indian language free.
How accurate are YouTube auto-caption transcripts?
YouTube auto-captions are generated by Google's speech recognition and are generally accurate for clear speech in supported languages. Hindi and regional language auto-captions can have errors — hearlog presents the raw caption text so you can review and edit before saving the note.
Can I summarise a long YouTube lecture?
Yes. After extracting the transcript, choose your summary style — Key Points for a quick overview, Detailed for comprehensive notes, or Action Items for instructional content. The summary is generated from the full transcript regardless of length.

Can I save the YouTube transcript as a note?
