How image text extraction works
hearlog sends your image to hearlog AI, which reads the text in its original script and returns it — then feeds it into the same AI pipeline as a recording, so you get a summary in five styles and a one-click translation, and you can save it as a note.
This handles the everyday Indian reality of text trapped in images: a Hindi government notice photographed on a phone, a Tamil WhatsApp forward, a screenshot of a circular, or handwritten class notes. The text comes out in Devanagari, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali or whatever script it was written in — not romanised, not translated unless you ask.

Can I extract Hindi text from a WhatsApp screenshot?
Yes. Upload the WhatsApp screenshot to hearlog and hearlog AI extracts all text including Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil and other Indian language scripts. The extracted text can then be translated to English or summarised in one click. Pro feature at ₹299 per month or $19 per month.
What image formats are supported?
hearlog accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and HEIC image formats up to 10MB. This covers photos taken on any smartphone, screenshots from any device and scanned documents exported as image files. No format conversion is needed before uploading to hearlog.
Can it read handwritten text in Indian languages?
Yes, with limitations. hearlog AI reads clear handwritten text in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and other Indian scripts when the writing is legible and the photo is well-lit. Cursive or very small handwriting may not extract accurately — a clear, well-lit photo gives the best results.
Does it work for government documents and notices?
Yes. Government notices, circulars and official documents photographed on a phone extract well when the image is clear and in focus. Both Devanagari and regional scripts are supported. The extracted text can be translated to English for sharing with non-Hindi-speaking colleagues.
Can I summarise text extracted from an image?
Yes. After extraction, the text flows into hearlog AI summary pipeline — choose Key Points for a quick overview, Detailed for comprehensive notes or Action Items for instructions extracted from a document. The same 5 summary styles available for audio recordings work for image text too.
Is image text extraction free?
Image text extraction is a Pro feature at ₹299 per month or $19 per month. The free plan includes audio recording and file upload transcription — 200 minutes per month. Upgrade to Pro to add image OCR, YouTube transcription and PDF extraction.
Can I translate the extracted text to another language?
Yes. After extraction, click Translate and choose any of 50+ languages. A Hindi government notice becomes an English summary. A Tamil WhatsApp forward becomes a Hindi translation. The original extracted text and the translation are saved together in one note.
How accurate is the text extraction?
Accuracy is high for printed text in standard fonts and good lighting. It is lower for heavily stylised text, very small print or poor-quality photos. hearlog uses hearlog AI for extraction — always verify extracted text against the original image before using in official contexts.
